“Patrimonio Saqueado: El Robo Sistemático de Europa por los Nazis y los Comunistas”
This is the third conference of HCC’s series on the looting of national patrimonies. The deliberate and methodical takings by the Nazis and Communists of Europe’s art works, antiques, relics, and jewels displaced not only the continent’s national patrimony, but its citizens as well. Although much time has passed since the fall of these tyrannies, many rightful owners and their valuables have yet to be reunited.
PRESENTER: Alberto Bustamante, M.D. President of
Herencia Cultural Cubana and collector of rare illustrated books, maps,and engravings.
SPEAKER: Tania Mastrapa, Ph.D. Founder of Mastrapa Consultants, a Miami-based firm specializing in confiscated property claims. Her first book Confiscated Fate will be released in 2008. She received her B.S. in Marketing from Boston College, Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School and her Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Miami.
PANEL: Mari-Claudia Jiménez. J.D. Associate in the New York law firm of Herrick, Feinstein’s litigation department where the majority of her work is done as part of their Art Law practice.She received her B.A. in Art History from Williams College, Master’s in Cuban-American History and Relations and Juris Doctor from Fordham University.
Claude Matasa, Dce, DSc. Florida’s Honorary Consul General of Romania. Former political detainee and honorary member of “Memoria,” an organization dedicated to the remembrance of crimes committed under Romania’s Communist regime. He is on the Dentistry faculty at University of Illinois – Chicago.
Peter Hargitai: Author of Daughter of the Revolution: A Novel and Millie. Hargitai and his family fled Hungary in the aftermath of the 1956 Revolution.He is on the English Faculty at Florida International University.
